About BiMaTS

The Birmingham Materials Testing Services - BiMaTS is an operating division, start-up company from University of Birmingham which specialises in providing comprehensive materials testing services for dental and biomaterial manufacturers.

Over several years working in academia in different institutions and faculties, Professor Josette Camilleri, the founder and director of BiMaTS saw the need to create a service for quality controlling materials at different levels of development demonstrating the quality, and efficacy of these products through rigorous and reliable testing methodologies.

Biomaterials play a critical role in various industries, particularly in dentistry and healthcare. To this end, BiMaTS offers expertise and cutting-edge testing capabilities through a wide range of services to assess the mechanical, physical, and biological properties of materials, enabling manufacturers to make informed decisions, either at the development stage or following commercialisation.

Professor Camilleri is a senior academic and lead for the Camilleri Research Group at the University of Birmingham. The group is made up of a very dedicated team of highly skilled scientists and technical staff who undertake research on materials and also testing methodologies. The group uses International Standards Organization methodologies to ensure robust and reproducible testing using state-of-the-art equipment and expertise to deliver accurate and precise results. The range of tests include mechanical testing to evaluate the strength and durability of materials, physical testing to assess their dimensional stability and surface properties, biological characterisation, cytotoxicity testing, and antimicrobial property analysis. By conducting thorough evaluations, we help our clients understand the interactions between biomaterials and the biological interface.
